Obituary

Marlene A. Smedbron, of Muskego, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on Friday, October 10, 2025. Born on January 8, 1952, to the late Irwin and Eleanor (Strong) Baerbock.

Marlene's legacy is carried on by her devoted husband of 45 years, Doug, her cherished son, Sean, and her caring siblings, Dean (Anne) Baerbock and Kathy (Larry) Erickson. She was a beloved cousin to Rev. Ronald Baerbock as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her loving parents and her infant son, Nels, who she now joins in eternal rest.

An alumna of UW Whitewater, Marlene earned her Masters in Education, a testament to her commitment to lifelong learning. For 35 years, she shaped the minds and hearts of 7th and 8th-grade students at Parkview Middle School in Mukwonago. Her dedication to her students continued until her retirement in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of inspired learners and grateful colleagues.Marlene's love story with Doug began in earnest when they married on August 2, 1980. Together, they faced life’s challenges and celebrated its joys, including Marlene’s courageous triumph over breast cancer. Their partnership was one of mutual support, with Marlene being a constant presence in the audience as Doug pursued his passion for amateur acting in local theaters.

Marlene had an unparalleled love for shoes, finding joy in each new pair as if they were treasures. Travel was another of Marlene's passions, with her and Doug exploring numerous destinations. Among their many adventures, the airboat journey through the Everglades remained a particularly cherished memory. Closer to home, their trips to Adams-Friendship were filled with laughter and love, creating unforgettable moments. Marlene's zest for life extended to her hobbies, which were as numerous as they were diverse. She was always eager to immerse herself in new experiences. Driving was not just a means of transport for Marlene; it was an activity she genuinely enjoyed, whether it was a quick trip to the store or a long drive to visit family and friends.
