Obituary

Norma was born on November 7, 1923 to Constance and Oscar Light in Chicago. She grew up in Norwood Park, Illinois with one younger sister. She graduated from Taft High School in 1941. She met the love of her life, Perry, at Norwood Park Evangelical Lutheran Church where Norma was the secretary of the Luther League and Perry was the president. They were married in that church in 1942 and celebrated 71 years together in December 19, 2013.

They spent 55 years of their life living in Rolling Meadows, Illinois raising two daughters, Patti and Marty. They were blessed with 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and another on the way. The family spent many vacations camping all over the United States. They were very active members of Bethel Lutheran Church in Palatine, Illinois for 50 years, singing in the choir and serving on other committees. Norma has always been an avid Cubs fan and was thrilled when they finally won the World Series.

Norma worked at various locations as a secretary. She then became a school bus driver and loved working with children so much, she became an elementary school secretary. After retirement, Norma and Perry traveled in their motorhome to 47 states and wintered in Florida for 20 years. They were always active singing in choirs, square dancing, riding their tandem bicycle, and playing shuffleboard. Her love of dance started as a child and continued into her 90’s, clogging at Tudor Oaks Retirement Home. Norma loved to play many kinds of games, especially card games and BINGO.

Her gift to us was her deep love of family and fun spirit. She was born into eternal life on June 10, 2022.  Norma will be deeply missed, but is now dancing in heaven with her love, Perry.

The Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center and the VFW were both organizations close to Norma’s heart.
